How Does My-Beacon Work?
Published on 6th October 2025 by Debs
I love watching Phil head off on another adventure on his motorbike. But every time, there's always the worry that if something happens to him, how would anyone let me know? To help alleviate that worry, we created My-Beacon, a QR code service that allows someone to send an instant alert to loved ones.
So how does it work?
There are 4 simple steps that allow emergency services or first responders to contact your people. They are:
- Scan the QR Code - With their phone, they scan the QR code that's on your bike or helmet.
- Enter the Message - They will then be shown a form where they enter their name, phone number and their message. It is important that they have to provide their phone number as it allows the recipient to instantly contact them to provide any medical information they need and to find out more details about what has happened.
- Verify They're Real - Before their message is sent, the responder will be sent a single-use code for them to verify that the number is theirs and the situation is real
- Your Beacon is Lit - The message is now sent to your loved ones that you have chosen when you set up your Beacon.
Although many riders have ICE set up on their phone, or think that first responders can just use their phone to contact their loved ones, in any accident, a phone can easily be broken, and most people don't know their loved one's number. Allowing you to set up more than one next of kin also means more people are instantly contacted at the same time about your accident, which could be life-saving if the emergency services need your medical information.
My-Beacon is still in pre-launch, and we are getting very close to announcing the launch date soon.
Feel free to reach out and ask any questions you might have. You can Contact Us here.
Ride safe, everyone.
